At 1:51:04 pm local time on Tuesday 23 August 2011 a Magnitude 5.8 earthquake occurred in Virginia with a hypocenter approximately 117 km southwest of Washington Dulles International Airport. Major airports nearby were closed for inspections but reopened quickly.
